Arthur McChesney
Arthur L. McChesney, 98, of Youngsville, Pa. and formerly of Corry, Pa. died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, Pa.
He was born July 27, 1919, in Torpedo, Pa. a son of the late Fred and Sarah Benedict McChesney.
Art moved frequently as a young boy and attended numerous schools in Warren County. As a young man, Art worked in the woods skidding logs and later for various dairy farms in the area. In 1941, Art enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe with the 5th Armored Division. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Art was a dairy farmer most of his life. He also was a welder for McInnes Steel, retiring in the 1980’s after twenty years of service.
He was a member of the Beaverdam Mennonite Church in Elgin, Pa., he enjoyed canning meat and making soap with the church congregation. He also was a member of Corry VFW Post #264, American Legion Post #658 in Youngsville, Pa., Corry Grange and Corry Artist Guild.
Art enjoyed painting and artwork, going to steam shows and watching horse pulls. He also enjoyed going to his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and traveling with his son Ken to Alaska to help with welding on drilling equipment.
In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death on September 19, 2013, by his wife Ruth A. Fullom McChesney whom he married on November 1, 1947, in Corry, Pa.; a son-in-law, Chuck Shirey; three sisters, Barbara Cox, Alice Soudan, and Shirley Granger; two brothers, Warren and Blaine McChesney and a grandson Scott Walton.
Art is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Shirey of Pittsfield, Pa.; and two sons, Kenneth McChesney and his wife Darlene and Eugene “Stub” McChesney and his wife Penny all of Corry, Pa.
Also, surviving are five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Beaverdam Mennonite Church, 17721 Rt. 89, Corry, Pa. on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 12 noon. Pastor Robb Esh will officiate.
Burial will be in Lawn Cemetery, Beaverdam, Pa.
