Alice Tranter
Alice May Tranter, age 93, of Warren died Monday, July 2, 2018, at Blair House of Warren, PA.
Alice was born November 4, 1924, in Titusville, PA, the daughter of the late Lester and Ila (Barrett) Proper. She was a graduate of Titusville High School. She has been a longtime resident of Warren and was a partner in Tranter’s Grocery Store with her husband. Alice was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She later worked for many years as a reserve agent at the Warren State Hospital, from which she retired. Alice enjoyed bowling, reading, and crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed family and beach vacations.
She is survived by four daughters, Jeanne Gray and husband Michael, of Mars, PA, Sarah Kelly and husband John, of Farmington, NM, Mary Wright of Warren, PA and Tammy Bauer, of Warren, PA; one son, Richard L. Tranter Jr. and wife Linda of Fredericksburg, VA; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death in 1989 by her husband, Richard L. Tranter, whom she married on March 20, 1943, in Clymer, NY; a grandson, Richard L. Tranter III; and two brothers, Lester Proper Jr., and William Proper.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren, PA with Rev. Michael Rutenber, visitation pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warren.
