Phyllis Lucille (Calkin) Peck
Phyllis Peck died peacefully on April 4, 2018 at home after a courageous battle with cancer, her loving family by her side. She was born to the late Harold and Marie Calkins on March 1, 1939 in Perry, N.Y. Phyllis attended Cassadaga valley Central High School and Christian Academy in Staten Island, NY. She married her hometown sweetheart and best friend James Richard Peck in 1957 and had 51 years of happy and loving marriage before his passing in 2009. Phyllis at only 5’1″ was as tough as they come a hard working loving caring mother of four children; Kevin A. Peck (fiance) Renee Grenier of Palm Coast, FL, Craig A. Peck (wife) Lexie of Bunnell, FL, Katherine A. Lash (husband) Chris residing in Palm Coast, FL, and Connie A. Alexander (husband) Kevin of Coraopolis, PA. Her life was completely devoted to her family, friends and coworkers. Her presence would always be accompanied with a loving smile and a warm greeting, for she cared so much for all people and wanted to offer her love to all.
Phyllis was very ambitious looking always to better herself and the community in which she presided. While caring for her four kids, she was always working and acquiring more education. She home schooled herself and learned skills to get her better employment. She is a graduate of Jamestown Business College of Jamestown, NY with a medical secretary degree. She was on the Fire Dept as an EMT member. She accomplished getting things done in the community to make it safer for our kids getting to and from school. She was an advocate for the working class very active in UFCW local One Union and AFSME. She worked and contributed to the warren Community until retirement as a Medical Secretary at Warren General Hospital.
After retirement in 1998 Phyllis and her husband Jim moved to the Palm Coast Fl. Where they can enjoy retirement and to be with her two sons and their Children. Retirement was not in Phyllis’s mind and wasn’t long she went to work part time in her Son’s business and became very involved with her grand kids with their school and sport activities. Phyllis is a devote Christian and was an active member of Flagler Community Church, her legacy of sharing her love and smiles has become well known to the people of Flagler County who have been lucky to now her. Her hobbies included, crocheting, knitting, going out for dinner, weekly bible study, spending time with her good friends, caring for her loving dog, Diva, watching the golden girls and keeping up on Facebook with all the Family and extended family, she would never leave any one out.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her Husband James Richard Peck, Her Brother Donald Calkins, Brother Eugene Calkins.
Phyllis is survived by her Sister Lois Peterson (husband) Bumpy of Celeron NY. Brother Danny Calkins (wife) Debbie of Jamestown NY. Brother Vincent Calkins of Garland Texas. 11 Grand Children, 4 Great Grand Children.
Funeral Services to be held, Friday June 22 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd. Jacksonville, services start at 2:30 pm.
Saturday June 23 11:00 service with luncheon to follow at Flagler Community Church, Flagler Beach Fl.
