David Johnson

David W. Johnson, 87, of Route 426, Spring Creek, Pa., died Monday, May 28, 2018, at Corry Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 27, 1930, in Warren, Pa., a son of the late Clinton and Margaret Murtaugh Johnson.

Dave was raised and educated in the Irvine and Youngsville areas and graduated from Youngsville High School in 1948. He worked several jobs including Star Furniture Factory in Youngsville, a lumber mill and Montgomery Wards in Warren. In 1952, Dave began working for McInnes Steel in Corry as a manipulator operator. He worked there for 44 years, retiring in 1995, their Centennial year.

He was a member of the Spring Creek Community Church where he served as a Trustee, a Deacon and helped maintain the church and parsonage. As a teenager, Dave became an Eagle Scout, along with his twin brother Donald. Years later, he assisted in leading a troop. He was a member of the Masons and Odd Fellows Lodge. He volunteered his time at Miracle Mountain Ranch and Stilson Hill Cemetery where he was also a board member. Dave studied local newspapers and history and knew pertinent facts about generations of people. He treasured his family’s get togethers, often saying, “People are more important than things.” He enjoyed working with his hands, including woodworking, restoring tractors, making walking sticks from unique wood pieces and taking care of his two Australian Shepherds. He spent countless hours mowing grass and clearing trails on his land, and when asked, almost always said every day after retirement was a good day!

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death on September 6, 2008, by his wife, Nancy L. Armitage Johnson, whom he married April 20, 1950 in Cobbs Corners, Pa.; a brother Carl Johnson and a granddaughter, Bethany Johnson.
