Joseph Rogowski
Joseph A. Rogowski, 75, of Irvine, PA, passed away February 18, 2018 at the Rouse Home.
He was born April 11, 1942, in Buffalo, NY, a son to the late John and Josephine (Czaplicki) Rogowski. When Joe was a teenager, he began playing the drums. While in his late teens he joined a band call “The Vibratos” as their drummer. The lead singer was Emil Lewandowski (Cory Wells). Joe and Cory became friends until Joe was drafted in the Army. The Vibratos moved to California and changed their name to the Enemys. Cory Wells then started a band called “Three Dog Night.” Joe left the service on a medical discharge and moved to Jamestown, NY in 1964. He joined a band with Junie Schenck of the Surf Club in Bemus, NY, called the Surfers and was known as Joey Joe the Drummer. He later moved on and played for the Rogues in many of the clubs in the Jamestown, NY area and northwestern, Pa. In the early 1990’s Joe started his own business called Chautauqua Vacuum with his brother John who own Chautauqua Sewing in the Fairmount Plaza, Jamestown, NY. He also worked as a bouncer at the Surf Club in Bemus, NY for Jackie and Junie Schenck for approximately five years. Joe retired from his business in 2005 due to an injury he sustained from a fall.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rogowski, whom he married September 3, 1999 in Warren, PA, 2 stepsons, Mark (Kelly) Hazeltine of Youngsville, PA and Tim (Kyra) Hazeltine of Bear Lake, PA; 2 brothers, John (Cindy) Rogowski, Sr. of Ashville, NY and Jim Rogowski of Buffalo, NY; his grandchildren, Julia Hazeltine, Jada DeLoof, Rickel Darkling, Kyle Swart, Mia, Grace, Timmy, Ayla and Sophie Hazeltine; a great-grandson, Parker Drake and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Rogowski.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 11:00AM at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Dalrymple Street, Pittsfield, PA 16340 with the Rev. Nate Fugate, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in the Wrightsville Cemetery.
