Charles Robbins

Charles Merrill “Mert” Robbins, 86, of Creek Road in Busti, New York, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at home. Born in Jamestown, NY on November 20, 1931, he was the son of the late J. Jesse and Lucile (Lindberg) Robbins. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War where he served as an Aviation Machinist Third Class from 1951 1955. He married Shirley (Chadwick) Robbins, his wife of 62 years whom he became engaged to on Feb. 12, 1955. He was a member of the Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, the AMVETS Post 50 of Sugar Grove, the Celeron Legion, the Vikings, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, the War Vets, the Celeron Moose and was a lifetime member of the Busti Fire Department. He was an avid Nascar Fan, enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at their summer home at The Vikings. Mert will be remembered by his many friends as the BROOM MAN.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jesse (Lorie) M. Robbins of Busti, NY; 2 daughters, Terri L. Robbins of Sugar Grove, PA and Kellie (Dale) J. Johnson of Youngsville, PA; 7 grandchildren, Nathan Dallas of Kannapolis, NC, Cole Robbins of Busti, Jay Groves of Sugar Grove, Kelli Shagla of Sugar Grove, Alex Johnson of Youngsville, Christopher Johnson of Youngsville and Faith Johnson of Youngsville; 6 great grandchildren, Nathalie, Raegon, Mikael, Halley, Nolan and Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Leva Robbins and an uncle, Clare Robbins.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 5 7 pm and also on Saturday, February 17th from 11 am until noon at the Sugar Grove Branch of McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc. where a funeral service will follow at noon on Saturday. No graveside services will be held as burial will be private in Busti Cemetery. In honor of his great grandson, Cooper Groves, memorials may be made to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, 8085 Saltsburg Road, Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15239 or the Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, 9 East Chadakoin Parkway, Celeron, NY 14720. Mert would like to thank Charlie Doepp and Jim Curry from the Fish Club for being there for him at that meeting 15 years ago.
