Gail Smith

Gail N. Smith, 89, of Warren, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Warren General Hospital. Gail was born February 19, 1928, in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Frank J. and Cecelia (McGuire) Smith.
Gail was a lifelong Warren resident. At the age of 11, he worked as a caddie at Conewango Valley Country Club. He joined the US Army and was part of the 10th Mountain Division in Ft. Carson, CO as a medical technician and ski patrol. After returning from the Army, he worked for the National Transit Company from 1948 until 1963. He spent a brief time at Struthers Wells Company, and then worked for the Steam Fitters Union Local #449, as a steam fitter/pipe fitter until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed golfing, watching golf, hunting, horse racing, and was a lifelong Pirates fan. He was a member of Elks Lodge #223, the Henry Mosher Post # 638 Falconer Legion, and the Eagles Aeerie #313, and the Moose Lodge #109.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, he is survived by his wife, Sandra T. Duffy Smith, whom he married July 21, 1956; four children, Gayle Hill, and husband, Mike, of Mansfield, PA, Kevin Smith, of Warren, Shelly Moore, and husband, Greg, of Blossburg, PA, and Christine Smith, of Warren; two brothers, Richard Smith, and wife, Donna, and Donald Smith, and wife, Beverly, both of Warren; five grandchildren, Kevin Hill, and wife, Jess, Christopher Hill, Jamie Hill, Mikaela Smith, and Sara Slatton, and husband, Ryan; one great-granddaughter, Joey Violet Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gail was preceded in death by four brothers, Boyd Smith, Frank “Boots” Smith, Walter Smith, and Raymond Smith.
Friends will be received at the Peterson Blick Funeral Home, Inc, 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Sunday, January 28, from 4 to 7 p.m.
A memorial service will be held there on Monday, January 29, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain, Rouse Home, officiating.
