Dennis Brown

Dennis Jeffrey Brown, 68, of Warren, PA, died Monday, January 8, 2018, at 6:50 a.m., after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis and cancer.

He was born on June 4, 1949, to Howard and Gloria (Boston) Brown. He resided all his life in Warren, and was a 1968 graduate of Warren Area High School.

He entered in the US Army in March of 1969, and was sent to the Republic of Vietnam in November of 1969, and served with the 1st Air Cav. Division (Airmobile). He served a total of 18 months in Vietnam as a Sergeant and was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, 2 Air Medals, the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and many other medals and citations. Upon discharge from the Army, Dennis went to work at the Warren County Sherriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff and worked there until April of 1978 when he went to work for Crossett Inc., as a safety officer.

In August of 1983, he was promoted to Safety and Personnel Director. On February 12, 1987, Dennis was promoted to Vice President responsible for Safety, Personnel, Compliance and many other responsibilities. While at Crossett he was a founding member of the Pennsylvania Round Table which consisted of Federal and State Enforcement personnel and Safety Directors from the trucking sector. Dennis was also active in the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association and New York Truck Association. Dennis was also a member of the National Tank Truck Carriers and held the position of Eastern Chairman for many years and was elected as National Chairman for 1993. Due to the advancement of his MS, retirement occurred in February of 1999.

He was a member of American Legion Post 135, Northstar Lodge 241, and the Warren Elks Lodge. Dennis was also a member of the Trinity Memorial Church. He enjoyed his two grandchildren and spent as much time with them as possible. He was considered by his family to be a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sadly and deeply missed.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Judith of 45 years; daughter, Kimberly Darr, and husband, Justin, and two of the most adored grandchildren, Hunter and Megan. Dennis was preceded in death by his father in April of 2004 and his mother in June of 2005.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren, on Thursday, January 11, from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. The Northstar Lodge 241 will conduct a Masonic funeral service at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, 444 Penn. Ave. W., Warren, on Friday, January 12, at 11 a.m., with The Rev. Canon Brian Reid, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by members of the Sheffield and Clarendon VFW and US Army personnel.
