John Hodges

John L. Hodges, better known as “Jack” or “Big Daddy”, 81, of Irvine, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Rouse Home.
He was born October 3, 1935 in Youngsville, PA, a son to the late Darius and Sara (Dunkle) Hodges. Jack was a crane operator at the National Forge until his retirement after 25 years. He was also a guard at the United Refinery for 10 years. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA), the Pittsfield Otterbein United Methodist Church and a past member of the Youngsville American Legion Post #658. In his earlier life, he played in the Johnny Hodges Band in which they sang and played country music. Jack had a passion for riding motorcycles and witnessing for his savior Jesus Christ and also playing and singing gospel music. He loved building WWII model airplanes, but most of all he loved his family.
He is survived by his children, Shelley (Fred) Carter of Pittsfield, PA, Frank (Judi) Hodges of Hermitage, PA, Julie Hodges of Fort Meyers, FL., Norma (Mark) Gardner of San Jose, CA and Jacquie (Phil) Peterson of San Diego, CA; his grandchildren, Shawn Spinks, Matthew, Timothy & Johnathan Hodges, Kevin Lawson, Branden Reynolds, Jessica Hecei, Raeanne Gardner, Treyton, Corey & Braxton Peterson and 9 greatgrandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Phanco Hodges and 2 sisters, Norma Adam and Renee Chapel.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 6, at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, from 3:005:00 pm at which time a funeral service will be held there with his son, Rev. Frank Hodges, pastor of the Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage, PA, and also Rev. Nate Fugate, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Warren County Memorial Park.
