Gladys Meleen
Gladys L. Meleen, 84, of Sugar Grove, passed away Wednesday May 17, 2017 at the Warren General Hospital.
She was born August 26, 1932 in Busti, N.Y., a daughter to the late Alden and Mary Hall Abbott. She worked at the State Hospital for 20 years until she retired in 1996. She was an 84 year member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church where she held many roles over the years. She was a member of the Care Team, the United Methodist Women and several other committees and groups. She was an avid quilter and cherished her time with the Fiddler Hill Quilt Group. Gladys was very involved in the community and assisted with the annual Sugar Grove Sales Day, the Santa Sale and the Angel Tree program. She also enjoyed camping, gardening, feeding the birds, Bridge Club and especially traveling to visit her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 67 years, Stanley Meleen, whom she married Oct 7, 1950; her children Debbie and her husband Bill Hirsch of South Lake Tahoe, CA, Crystal Meleen and her husband John Keats of Great Falls, VA, and Jim Meleen and his companion Linda Falconer of Warren, PA; a brother, Richard Abbott of Long Pond, PA; her grandchildren, Rebecca Williams of Reston, VA, Justin Troxell of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Aaron Hirsch of Chicago, IL; her greatgrandchildren, Chase, Grayson and Gavin Williams, Shaniah and Isaiah Caldwell, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gladys is preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Meleen and a brother, Marion Gregg Abbott.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 21st, at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, 3 Race Street, Sugar Grove, PA 16350, from 4:007:00 p.m. and also on Monday, May 22nd, from 10:0011:00 a.m. at which time a funeral service will be held at the church with the Rev. Shelia Auer, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Wesleyan Cemetery.
