Neil Hess

Neil C. Hess, 64, of Davey Hill Road in Pittsfield, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, November 4, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born July 9, 1952 in Jamestown, N.Y., a son to the late Agnes O’Brien Hess. Neil was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Medical Corp in Germany.   Following his military service he was employed by the Jamestown Post Journal from 1968 to 1974.     He was employed by Crossett Inc. for 20 years as a Class A tank truck driver.     He worked out of Warren, Falconer, and Kennedy N.Y. terminals.    He was a member of the local Teamsters Union in Bradford Pa and Tonawonda N.Y..  Throughout his life, he had a love and passion for, corvettes and The American Quarter Horse.

As a young man, he was in charge of the pony ring at Allen Park in Jamestown N.Y.   In fall, he was in charge of the horses during the National Field Trials in Syracuse, N.Y., He began working both jobs at the age of 12.   Neil worked for the City of Jamestown providing   horse drawn Snow plowing of city sidewalks on the west side of town.   Many Families fondly remember the sound of the bells as the horses past by their homes.  Many people would enjoyed visiting with Neil and his team of horses in the early morning winter hours.   He was often stopped by residents who loved to feed the team of horses apples.

Along with owning four corvettes over the years, Neil loved to buy and sell them. He was a very proud when his grandson drove his granddaughter in his corvette through the Homecoming parade in Youngsville.

He was a member of the YBarU saddle Club, and spent many years traveling to horse shows and passed his love of horses along to his daughter and granddaughter.

He enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed yearly family vacations to the beach and Disney world.

Neil is survived by his loving wife, Linda Smith Hess, whom he married on October 24, 1971 in Busti, N.Y. He is also survived by a daughter, Stacy (Allen) Cressley of Youngsville, PA; his grandchildren, Johnathan Pollow, Savannah Pollow and her companion, Stephen Beattie, both of Youngsville, PA and Cole (Kasaundra) Cressley of Garland, PA; a greatgrandson, Benjamin Cressley; a sister, Laurie (Vern) Mee of  Jamestown, N.Y.; a sisterinlaw, Roberta Hess of Jamestown, N.Y.;  and several nieces and nephews, and his faithful and beloved dog, Chester.

In addition to his mother, Neil was preceded in death by two sisters, Yvonne Loewel and Judith Crowell; a brother, Mark Hess and his fatherinlaw, Arden L. Smith Sr.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Youngsville on Monday, November 7, 2016 from11:001:00pm at which time a funeral service will be held there with the Rev. Kenneth Morris, pastor of the Wrightsville Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wrightsville Cemetery.
