Richard Sample

He was born on March 5, 1960, in Jamestown, NY, the son of Herb and Donna Smith Sample of Jamestown, NY.

Rick graduated from Maple Grove High School, Bemus Point, N.Y. in 1978. He enjoyed Track and Field and ran long distance events. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Jamestown Community College in Criminal Justice.

He was previously employed at Enviro Gas, Jamestown. Rick was currently employed with SKF, Falconer, as an Inspector and was employed there for thirty years this month.

Rick was a former EMT with Maple Springs Fire Department. He enjoyed golfing with his wife, gardening, hunting, making his own horseradish and brewing his own beer. Rick also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by his two little dogs, Jax and Chics.

In addition to his parents, Rick is survived by his wife, Melinda S. “Lynn” McChesney Sample whom he married on October 5, 2003 at his parent’s home in Jamestown, NY; two daughters, Jessica (Nicholas) Stewart of Hampton Roads, VA and Ashley Sample and her companion, Ryan MacIntyre of Jamestown, two stepsons, Timothy Sherman of Russell, PA and Matthew Sherman of Jamestown; one step daughter, Nicole Clark and her companion, Tom Lutgen both of North Warren, PA; one brother, Jeffrey (Clare) Sample of Humblestown, PA; two sisters, Cindy (Chip) Miller of Elbridge, NY and Beth (Jeff) Duncan of Williamsburg, VA; four step grandchildren, Carter Clark, Conner Clark, Blake Zuck and Caleb Zuck all of North Warren, PA; his mother and father in law, Janet and Gail McChesney of Russell, PA. Rick is also survived by aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may attend a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 21st at 3:00 PM at Maple Spring Fire Hall, 5385 Maple Springs Ellery Road, Maple Springs, NY. Tom Maynard will officiate the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Leash on Life, 12 Lucy Lane, Jamestown, NY 14701.

Burial will be private.
