Stephen Eisenhauer
Lt. Col. Stephen S. Eisenhauer, USMC (Ret.) “Steve”, of Winchester, VA, died Sunday, May 1, 2016. He was born December 1, 1931 in Sheffield, PA; the son of the late Leiser and Martha Swartz Eisenhauer.
Steve graduated from Sheffield High School, Sheffield, PA, and attended the U. S. Naval Academy, where he was graduated and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954. He married Barbara Ritchie of Sheffield, PA in June, 1954. While at the Naval Academy, Steve was an outstanding student athlete. As a Navy football player he was first team All America in 1952 and 1953. He was later elected to the Academic All America Hall of Fame (1992), the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Warren County chapter (1993) and the College Football Hall of Fame (1994).
He had a distinguished career as a Naval aviator while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour in Vietnam. He retired in 1975 then served as a civilian consultant working with Naval Air until 1996.
Steve was a member of North Star Lodge No. 241 in Warren, PA, an honorary member of Spurmont Lodge No. 98, Strasburg, VA, an honorary member of Winchester Hirham Lodge No. 21, and a member of the Shenandoah Valley No. 543 Chapter of the National Sojourners.
Steve is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, and their two children, Susan (Frederick) Kessell, and Gregory (Elizabeth) Eisenhauer, and two grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by an infant son, Brian Lee Eisenhauer and two brothers, David Eisenhauer and Edward Eisenhauer.
A funeral service will be held at the Naval Academy Chapel, Annapolis Maryland on May 19 at 1:00.
