Michael Schultz

Michael W. “Mike” Schultz, age 86, died on April 13, 2016 after a brief illness.

He was born March 31, 1930 in Karthaus, PA to the late Harold and Emma Shadeck Schultz. Mike was a resident of Sugar Grove, PA from 1957 to 1991 and Warren, PA from 1991 to 2013. Before 1957, he lived in Karthaus, PA, Corning, NY and Panama, NY.

Mike was a 1948 graduate of Cooper Twp. High School and Lock Haven University where he earned degrees in English and French in 1953. Mike was employed as a teacher in Addison NY in 195354, and Panama, NY from 195459. During those years he taught English, Math and Science. In 1959 he began teaching English and French at Eisenhower High School until he retired in 1985. Mike began the wrestling program at Eisenhower and was involved in school plays, the yearbook, school newspaper, clubs/activities advising and football scouting over the years. Mike completed post graduate Masters Degree equivalency courses in French at Bucknell University, Toulouse University in France and Temple University from 1963 to 1966.

Mike was committed to supporting public school educators and served as a Board member of WACOPSE Federal Credit Union for about 25 years. He was employed parttime at WACOPSE from 19852005. From 199295 Mike served as Chairman of the Board of the PA Credit Union League.

Mike was also a long time member of St. Luke’s R.C. Church in Youngsville, PA. Mike loved to travel, hunt, fish and play poker with his friends. He was a lifelong Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan. Mike and Pat ran the Stillwater Shop outside of Sugar Grove among the Amish community following his teaching career.

He is survived by his sister, Amelia Schultz of Arlington Heights, IL. He is also survived by his 5 children: daughter, Dorothy Schultz Stobaugh and husband Walter, of Rochester, MN; Rose Schultz and husband, Link Martin, of Harrisburg, PA; Guy Schultz and wife, Judy, of East Stroudsburg, PA; Lawrence Schultz, of Berkeley Spring, WV and Paul Schultz and wife, Challis, of Weaverville, NC. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by Patricia Louise Lamb Schultz, in 1990, after 37 years of marriage. In recent years Mike has lived with his daughter Rose Schultz and her husband Link Martin in Harrisburg, PA and served as a Democratic Committee person in Dauphin County.

A memorial service will be held on May 14, 2016, 2pm to 5pm at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, Sugar Grove, PA. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Sugar Grove Free Library, PO Box 313, 22 Harmon Street, Sugar Grove, PA 16350 or the Eisenhower Middle/High School Wrestling Booster Club, 3700 Route 957, Russell, PA 16345.
