Mollie Rockwell

Mollie C. Rockwell, 71, formerly of Warren, PA, died January 3, 2016 at her residence.

Mollie was born and raised in rural Warren County, PA. She moved to Washington, D.C. at the age of 17 after high school, living in the Arlington/Falls Church areas where she was employed by the federal government. She spent her first eight years in the department of Federal Aviation Administration and the remaining 28 years until her retirement as the Budget Officer in the Department of Transportation, Office of the Secretary.

She was a volunteer for the Transportation Federal Credit Union for more than 40 years. For the majority of those years she served on the Executive Committee as Chairwoman, ViceChairwoman, Secretary or Treasurer as appointed.

After her retirement in 1997, she moved to Charlottesville, VA.

Mollie was a congregant at Meadows Presbyterian Church. In her retirement, she became a hoarder of fabric, also known as a quilter, for a number of years until she changed habits and switched from fabric to yarn, becoming a knitter. Mollie was also a diehard fan of Virginia Women’s basketball, never missing a game. She also enjoyed hiking with a group of fellow senior citizens which she enjoyed very much. She was a past CASA volunteer and most currently a volunteer for the emergency food bank as a delivery driver.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Harmon Rockwell, brothers Donald Rockwell and David Rockwell (Jean), and sisters Linda (George) Eckland, Cathleen Knights, and sisterinlaw Sandra Rockwell. She is also preceded in death by her dog Angel. She is survived by one son, Jason Rockwell (Eleonore Buet), her beloved dog Lexi, sisters Susan (Patrick) Black, Veryl (Stephen) Carrington, brother Philip (Jeanette) Rockwell, sisterinlaw Evelyn Rockwell, and brotherinlaw Howard Knight and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She also was a surrogate grandmother to Dora and Gloria Macon.

A funeral and celebration of Mollie’s life will be held Thursday, January 7th at 2:00 pm at Meadows Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville, VA. A reception will follow in the church social hall.
