Melvin Barron
Melvin “Mel” Barron, 95, passed away peacefully at his residence in Youngsville, Pa., with his daughter by his side, on Thursday, December 3, 2015.
He was born on May 7, 1920, in Cleveland, Oh., a son of the late Ernest and Mildred Barron.
Mel’s passion was airplanes and flying. From the time he was 7 years old, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. He lived in Pleasant Township for several years with his grandmother and watched the airplanes fly out of the Warren Airport with his cousin, Aubrey, who also loved airplanes. There was nothing more in life he wanted than to be flying.
After he grew up, he managed and instructed students on how to fly at the Warren Airport in the mid 1950’s. He served with the Army Air Force during WWII, served with Cleveland Air National Guard and was also called back to duty during the Korean War. Mel was a career pilot and early on flew as a bush pilot in Alaska. He spent time as a pilot for the Colorado Game and Fish Department in Colorado Springs, Co., and then had a long stint as a test pilot for Silvaire Aircraft, Piper Aircraft Corp., and Pitts Aircraft.
In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by two sons, Alan and Donald Barron, and four brothers.
Mel is survived by three daughters, Christine Boyer of Vero Beach, Fl., Melanie Barron of Vero Beach, Fl., and Debra Barron of Loxahatchee, Fl.; and a son, James Barron of Vero Beach, Fl.
He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jennifer Boyer and David Murray; and one greatgrandson, Joseph Norberto.
No calling hours will be observed.
Burial was made in West Spring Creek Cemetery, West Spring Creek, Pa.
Arrangements were under the care of the Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa.
