Richard Downey

Richard G. (Boone) Downey, 89, of 11 Scott Street Tidioute, PA died Sunday morning at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home in Warren, PA.

He was born in Warren, PA September 3, 1925 a son of the late Gordon and Fern Parker Downey and lived in Tidioute his entire life. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the 101stInfantry, Yankee Division at the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was called back from inactive reserves September 30, 1950 during the Korean Conflict and was discharged on September 4, 1951. He was a founding member #3 of the Pequignot/Yeager Post 8803 of Tidioute, PA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and plowing other folks gardens every year.

On February 9, 1957 he was married to Ellen Jeanne Owens who preceded him in death on October 15, 2003. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister Joyce.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Hall and her husband Donald of Tionesta, two sons Rick Downey and Greg Downey and his wife Karin all of Tidioute; two sisters Linda Reed and her husband Robert of Tidioute and Marian Dashner of Tidioute; three brothers Jack Downey of Ocala, Fl, Paul Downey of Pittsfield, PA and William Downey and his wife Jane of Tidioute; a sister in law Margaret Owens of Grove City, PA and a brother in law Edward Owens and his wife Mariana of New Castle, PA; three grandchildren Abby Carrieri and husband James of Altoona, PA; Brad Hall and his wife Michelle of Ellwood City, PA and Jacob Downey of Cecil, PA; one great grandson Isaac Hall of Ellwood City, PA; two step grandchildren, Erik Garza of Tidioute and Brandyn Bynum of Sheffield and 5 step great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the James M. Higgins Funeral Home, 3 Elm Street, Tidioute on Tuesday, June 2 from 24 pm and 68 pm and are invited to attend services to be held at the funeral home Wednesday, June 3 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Ralph Culp officiating. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Kathy) Hall, Tionesta, two sons, Rick Downey, Greg and his wife, Karin Downey all of Tidioute, two sisters, Marian Dashner and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Reed, both of Tidioute, three brothers; Jack Downey, Ocala, Florida, Paul Downey, Pittsfield, PA, William (and his wife Jane) Tidioute, a sister in law, Margaret (and her husband Donald) Owens, Grove City, PA, a brotherinlaw, Edward, (and his wife Marianna) Owens, New Castle, PA. , three grandchildren: Abby (husband James) Carrieri, Altoona PA, Brad (wife Michelle) Hall, Ellwood, City, PA, Jacob, Cecil, PA.,

Two stepgrandchildren, Erik (and wife Karin) Garza, Tidioute, PA and Cecil Bynum, Sheffield, PA. Also five great grandchildren and five step great grandchilren.

Friends will be recieved at the James M. Higgins Funeral Home, 3 Elm Street, Tidioute, Tuesday, June 2 from 2 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend services to be held in the Funeral Home, Wednesday June 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverand Ralph Culp officiating.

Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park.
