Beryl Sternagle

Mrs. Sternagle graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and went on to receive her Masters in Geology from University of Illinois. She worked for the U.S. Army Map Service in Washington, D.C. before moving to Hollidaysburg, PA with her husband to raise their family. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society in Hollidaysburg.

On Sept. 10, 1966, in Worcester, MA, she married Alton M. Sternagle, Jr., who died Sept. 25, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Lara Larson and husband Rodney, of Russell, PA; her son, Mark Sternagle and his fiance, Mistique Primar, of Harrisburg, PA; her sister, Fay Flood of Barre, MA; her sisterinlaw, Miriam D. Sternagle of Braintree, MA; her grandson, TreVon A. Sternagle of Lexington, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother, and an infant son.

Mrs. Sternagle enjoyed numerous hobbies and held many collections. She helped to establish bluebird nest sites in Canoe Creek State Park and received Pennsylvania’s Bluebird Monitor of the Year Award. An avid birder, she had several “big years”, seeing the most species within Blair County for that year. She spent over 20 years researching the genealogy of the Moore family who built her Scotch Valley home in 1827.

A private interment ceremony will be held at New Canoe Creek Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, PA, at the family’s convenience.

The family requests no flowers and that any memorial donations in Mrs. Sternagle’s name be made to the Blair County Genealogical Society (431 Scotch Valley Rd., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648).
