Nearly 100 walkers, representing local businesses, families, and individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease, gathered at Betts Park recently for the Warren Walk to End Alzheimer's.
Participants took part in the Promise Garden ceremony, a tribute in which participants carry flowers of various colors, with each color representing their personal connection to the disease. The event raised money for the Alzheimer's Association's care, support and research efforts.
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease - a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer's and other dementias.
"We are grateful to everyone who walked, donated, and volunteered their time to make this event possible," said Maddy Drayer, development manager for the Alzheimer's Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter. "This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer's. With critical research underway, treatments that can change the course of the disease, and proven lifestyle habits that support brain health, there is real hope."
Although this year's walk is over, fundraising continues, and donations will be accepted through Dec. 31. To date, the Warren Walk has raised more than $24,000 toward its goal of $32,000. To donate or learn more, visit act.alz.org/warren.
