SHAPE PA is proud to recognize Christina Valentine of Tidioute Community Charter School as a recipient of the 2026 Innovation in Physical Education Award.
Valentine teaches Health and Physical Education at Tidioute Community Charter School in Warren County, where she continues to create meaningful and innovative opportunities for her students.
Through the TCCS Expeditionary Project, she connected her fifth grade and ninth to 11th grade students with the Warren County Pickleball Club. Students learned the history, equipment, skills, rules, and strategies of pickleball before taking their learning into the community for a culminating experience at the Warren County Pickleball Courts.
Beyond skill development, the project helped students build relationships with community members and experience physical activity in a new setting.
Valentine has also introduced students to activities including kickboxing, yoga, educational gymnastics, and spikeball, expanding the movement experiences available within her school community.
-- Indoor Trick-or-Treating will be at the Tidioute VFD Social Hall, 224 Main St., Tidioute from 5 up 7 p.m. This leaves time from 7 to 8 p.m. for youth to Trick-or-Treat around town, too. This event is sponsored by the Tidioute Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Please bring your kids out for some safe and fun Trick-or-Treating.
-- Tidioute Borough will hold Halloween Trick or Treat hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Remember to only stop at homes with their porch lights on for treats.
News from the VFW includes:
-- Tidioute VFW Post 8803, Post meetings held second Sunday of the month at 9 a.m. Next meeting is Sunday, Nov. 8.
-- VFW Post 8803 Auxiliary Meetings are the third Tuesday every month at 6:30 p.m., next meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 17.
-- Monday night Bingo is held every Monday evening, except holidays. Doors and kitchen open at 5 p.m. Jackpot tickets go on sale at 6 p.m., with games starting at 6:30. Open to the public, please come out and enjoy an evening with us.
-- Public Retail Auction to be held Thursday, November 5, 2026, doors open at 5, auction begins at 6. Auction held by the Hennigh Auction Company. Arrive early to view merchandise and get a seat; there will be all kinds of great merchandise. Kitchen will be open for your enjoyment.
-- Turkey Shoots are Nov. 7, 14 and 21 sponsored by the VFW and will be at the Tidioute Bucktails Shooting Range. Shoots begin at 10 a.m. and go until finished. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Our shells, your shotgun (12 gauge). Multiple rounds will be held with prizes for each round. Refreshments will be available.
-- Veterans Day celebration will be on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at VFW Post 8803, 93 Main St. Tidioute. Breakfast will be from 8-10 a.m. at a cost of $10, but free for Veterans. Ceremony at 11.
-- The VFW is always looking for new Post and Auxiliary Members, and for those who are already members to become active again. Come out and support your VFW and the Veterans that served and are serving our country.
