Jeremy Rulander was officially sworn in as the City of Warren's fire chief during Monday's City Council meeting, where members recognized his years of service and dedication to the community.

Rulander's appointment became effective Sept. 21. Danielle Flasher, council vice president, formally administered the oath of office, marking the next step in his career with the Warren Fire Department.

Rulander began his firefighting career at 14, joining the Scandia Volunteer Fire Department as a junior firefighter. During his time with the department, he held several positions before being hired by the City of Warren in November 2008 as a utility firefighter. He became a full-time employee in May 2011.

He continued to advance through the department, earning a promotion to lieutenant in October 2021 before being named deputy chief in July 2023.

Rulander holds several professional certifications, including Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor II and Pennsylvania emergency medical services instructor credentials. He is also enrolled in Fire Officer II and emergency coordinator training.

Following the swearing-in, Mayor David Wortman congratulated Rulander and thanked him for his years of service to the city.

"I think you're going to do a fantastic job," Wortman said, expressing appreciation for Rulander's contributions and looking forward to working with him in his new role.

The mayor also highlighted the department's work in emergency medical services and its broader impact throughout Warren County, particularly in addressing challenges facing rural communities.
