As the holiday season is fast approaching, the Blue Star Mothers are announcing their activities for the remainder of the year.

The group's activities benefit and support all local veterans and their families. The small group of volunteers within this group are busy. Volunteers of all ages, including men, are welcome.

First up is the annual donation breakfast which will be Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Warren American Legion. Donations for the basket raffles are still being accepted and needed. There are prizes including the basket raffle, 50/50 and the best costume. The winner will be announced next week.

An annual meat and freezer raffle in support of the Wreaths Across America Project is now underway. Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua PA 203 are responsible for covering eight cemeteries with 3,000 wreaths in Warren County, with 984 wreaths paid for so far. With a value of $1,000, the meat and freezer raffle tickets cost $10, with one winner receiving a freezer full of meat, with the freezer donated by Lowe's. The raffle will end on Nov. 23 or sooner, when all tickets get sold. Forms of payment accepted include cash, local checks, PayPal, and Venmo. In addition, Blue Star Mother volunteers are also selling tickets in hand, ready to go. For more information, contact the organization on their Facebook page. Venmo is @BlueStarMothersKinzuaPa203.

October concluded the last monthly meeting for the year, but that does not mean volunteers are at a standstill. The month of November will include planning and volunteers are needed for upcoming events into the new year. A volunteer meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Warren County Visitors Bureau along Route 6 in Starbrick.

Upcoming plans include a fundraiser on Dec. 6. Lynn Allen of Pawparazzi Photography reached out to the organization and offered to hold a fundraiser to benefit the local Blue Star Mothers.

Wreaths Across America is celebrated nationwide on Saturday, Dec. 19. Beginning at noon, the St. Joseph's Church is the meeting place where a special ceremony will take place before sending volunteers off to place wreaths on gravesites.

A visit from Dana Fox of the Veterans Leadership Program of Erie took place at the October meeting. The organization provides resources and services for veterans. Blue Star Mothers members said they were grateful to learn more about the work being done through the program in the region. Before Fox attended the meeting, the Veterans Leadership Program was the first veterans organization to sign up for the Blue Star Mothers "Stars, Stripes & Service" event planned for July 17, 2026.

In addition, the group welcomed Kevin Nyberg from the local Toy Shoppe of Warren to discuss services they can offer for the summer event. Sponsorship letters for the event have resulted in several local businesses responding with donations.

President Skyla Govier said four new members have been added to the local Blue Star Mothers group.

"From new members and community partnerships to fundraisers and preparations for Stars, Stripes & Service, there is so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to! It takes a village to make a difference, and we are so grateful for every person, business, organization, and family that stands beside us," Govier said.
