Local airman back home after second tour

Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Michael Okruch, from Warren returned home after serving nearly seven months supporting F-35s in the Middle East.

Currently active duty in the Air Force and stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Utah as a munitions systems craftsman, Okruch's nine-year military career has taken him around the globe, beginning with a first deployment to Japan and spanning assignments in Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma. During his latest tour, he led a 17-member team responsible for assembling 1,200 joint direct attack munitions, aircraft rockets and countermeasures, safely handling roughly 800,000 pounds of explosive materials.

A 2016 Warren Area High School graduate, Okruch is the son of Michael and Angela Okruch. His parents and brother, Brandon, reside in Warren while sister, Lindsey, is in nursing school in Pittsburgh.

Arriving home just in time for his 28th birthday, Okruch plans to use his time to relax and celebrate an overdue honeymoon with his new wife.
