Crary Art Gallery exhibit closes this weekend

By JESSICA N. REX 3 min read

Two exhibits on display at the Crary Art Gallery will close this weekend.

The "Timelessness" exhibit currently on display is by artist Anne Cutri, an artist from Erie who, during the opening weekend for the exhibit, shared about how she looked at art therapy. A process called SoulCollage, created by psychotherapist and author Seen B. Frost was introduced to Cutri at a conference where she later became a facilitator. Cutri explained that Frost holds dual masters degrees in divinity and family therapy.

Cutri said SoulCollage allows for the expression of self analysis, intuition and active imagination through the art of collage. Described as curated in images that have no words, Cutri's art exhibit is titled Timelessness, one born from grief after the loss of her sister. The process is intuitive tapping into the unconscious. Cutri turned to art-making as a path through mourning. The result comes from a body of work that includes mythology, religious tradition and astronomy.

Cutri is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and certified SoulCollage facilitator recognized for merging creative expression with social impact. In 2018, she founded Art for Wellbeing Everywhere, a nonprofit initiative transforming communities through the arts.

Artist Lee Lanier's exhibit is titled "Old Stories Made New." Based in Las Vegas, his work is drawn from mythological tales, religious parables, historical biographies, and literary characters. Representing a range of ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, Lanier's work reflects inclusivity across the ages comprising both children and the elderly, and local residents and international travelers.

As a muralist, illustrator, and fine art painter, Lanier explored fine art his entire life yet only turned to painting in a serious manner in 2015. Once employed as a professional animator for more than 30 years, he spent time at Walt Disney Studios and DreamWorks. Lanier has nearly 50 murals for cities, counties, school districts, corporations, and non-profits in several states and also spends free time creating chalk art and interactive sculpture art.

The next exhibits will be on display at the Crary Gallery beginning Dec. 5 and running into the new year until Jan. 3, 2027, and will feature Thomas Paquette and Joseph Grice.

The Crary Art Gallery is open every other month starting in February. Admission is free. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery is located at 511 Market St., Warren.
