Youngsville volunteers deck town to revive homecoming

School consolidation brought big changes, but for Youngsville, homecoming is proving that two student bodies can share one proud spirit. When community members decided to throw a combined celebration, help poured in from every corner -- which brought about a newly formed garden club that eagerly raced against the clock to wrap the town in autumn colors before the homecoming parade rolls down the street at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

In honor of a Youngsville tradition, this community event was created to bring the communities of Eisenhower High and Youngsville High together. Organizer Kelly Sullivan said, "Basically the idea came to bring our communities together and start new traditions combined with old ones. We are hoping it continues to be a tradition for Eisenhower in the future."

The Youngsville Elementary Middle School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and the EHS student council are co-hosting the Eisenhower Knights Homecoming Parade which will occur in downtown Youngsville, with parade lineup starting at 6 p.m. and the parade beginning at 6:30. Over 20 floats have come together, their route starting on Bates St., then right onto E. Main St., and finally a turn left down Ford St., towards Island Park. Hometown pride and community spirit will shine with a pep rally that will directly follow the parade at Island Park.

The homecoming game will take place on Friday where EHS will host Seneca on the field. The Homecoming dance will be on Saturday the 19th at Eisenhower High School.

This celebration is a testament to what can be achieved when a community unites for a common goal. Homecoming organizers expressed immense gratitude to the volunteer garden club for transforming the town, alongside Jones Chevrolet, Saxton Signs Company, and Fitzgerald's Trucking for their crucial support. Special thanks also go to Floral Ops in Youngsville for donating the homecoming court flowers, and the EHS and YEMS marching bands for providing the evening’s soundtrack. In addition, a special thanks to Revitalization of Youngsville for providing funds for decorations. Many more thanks to all that donated decorations, corn stalks and the willingness of people coming together to make it all happen.

Ultimately, the communities making up the two merged schools have quickly proven that these communities are undeniably stronger together -- setting a powerful precedent for every class to follow.
