Second annual Vet Fest to be held at Veterans Center

Photo by Jessica N. Rex Co-coordinators Julie Wilson and Kelly Zandi have worked hard to organize the 2nd Annual Vet Fest this Friday and Saturday at the Allegheny Valley Veterans Center in Clarendon, the former Allegheny Valley Elementary School.

The second annual Vet Fest kicks off Friday, Sept. 18, bringing a packed weekend of community support and family entertainment to the Allegheny Valley Veterans Center in Clarendon.

Festivities begin Friday at 3 p.m. with an opening ceremony featuring an honor guard and the national anthem. Attendees can enjoy a wide selection of food trucks from 3 to 9 p.m., including Lumberjacks Jerky, Meats and More, and The Big Cheese, with Main Street Diner on hand serving ice cream, specialty coffees, and teas.

Held on the west side of the building in the parking lot and field, the festival will have craft and information booths. Vendors include a variety of wood crafts, laser printed crafts, maple products, candles, soaps, jewelry, and more. Service information booths include: Civil Air Patrol, Victory Baptist Church, New Hope Assistance Dogs, Help at Home, AMVETS Service Officer, and the Allegheny Valley Veterans Center of Clarendon.

Friday evening entertainment will follow with live musical performances by Vinny and the Mudflaps and CountryFeit from 6 to 9 p.m.

The festival reopens Saturday at 9 a.m. for a full day of family activities. A classic car show will run from noon to 3 p.m., with vehicle registration opening at 10:30 a.m. Throughout both days, visitors can participate in a basket raffle and 50/50 drawing, with the winning tickets drawn Saturday at 5 p.m. Indoor bingo will take place inside the Veterans Center lobby from 5 to 7 p.m.

Rounding out the event, a bounce house will be on site both days while Happy Hooves and Friends Petting Zoo will be available on Saturday only, making the second annual Vet Fest a welcoming experience for all ages.
