Struthers to present 9/11 production, pallets can be signed Friday

For the first time in 20 years, Struthers Library Theatre is proud to raise the curtain on its own musical production and share a story of kindness, community and humanity in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
"Come From Away" tells the true story of those from a small community of Gander, Newfoundland, whose lives were changed when 38 planes were unexpectedly diverted to their tiny town in the aftermath of the attacks. Nearly 7,000 strangers arrived with nowhere to go, not knowing what would happen next, and the people of Gander did what they knew best: they opened their doors. They offered food, shelter, clothing, and comfort, asking for nothing in return, but gaining more than they could have imagined in the friendships forged.
As the cast prepares to bring this remarkable story to life, the Struther Library Theatre is asking the community to become part of it. The show's set is made almost entirely of shipping pallets representing the way passengers from all over the globe were unexpectedly transported far from home. These pallets will become part of the set of "Come From Away" and the public is invited to leave a piece of its own story on them.

The pallets will carry the community's words onto the stage and into the hearts of all those involved.
To "Sign Our Set" visit one of the following participating locations (markers provided). First Lutheran Church, First Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Grace United Methodist, St. Joseph Church, Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Pleasant Community Church, Scandia Covenant Church, Salvation Army, The Crossing Cafe, Twig and Vine, YMCA, The Arbor House, Warren Public Library, Hampton Inn, Rouse and Rouse Suites, Warren General Hospital and Struthers Library Theatre. The last chance to sign the set will come during the free hot dog cookout during the Explore Downtown Warren, PA event, on Friday, Sept. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m.
