St. Joseph’s Run Club earns four podium finishes at Mercyhurst Prep relays

ERIE -- The St. Joseph's Catholic School Run Club delivered a strong showing at the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers Distance Relays, bringing home four team podium finishes and placing four runners among the top 25 overall.
The Sept. 12 event featured a unique cross-country relay format, with teams of three runners each completing a 1,500-meter loop on the Mercyhurst Prep campus. A total of 105 runners competed.
St. Joseph's claimed the championship in the K-4 girls division. Shaylee McGraw, Ellason Curtis and Finnley Horan combined for a winning time of 23 minutes, 28 seconds. McGraw ran her leg in 7:43, followed by Curtis in 7:58 and Horan in 7:47.
The Crusaders added two podium finishes in the 5th-6th grade girls division. Caroline McGraw, Lottie Curtis and Scarlett Wymer finished second with a combined time of 21:36. The St. Joseph's team of Ruth Sienkiewicz, Reagan Caldwell and Avery Moski placed third in 21:50.
St. Joseph's also earned a second-place finish in the K-4 coed division. Marla Heinrich, Mary Anderson and Gabe Curtis combined for a time of 24:05.
Several Crusaders also turned in standout individual performances. Gabe Curtis led St. Joseph's with a time of 6:53, placing 13th overall among the 105 runners and first in his age group. Caroline McGraw finished 15th overall in 6:59, fourth among all girls and first in her age group.
Sienkiewicz finished 19th overall in 7:05, while Lottie Curtis placed 21st in 7:07.
Other St. Joseph's competitors included Calvin Steber, Ajita Sacher, Rose Anderson and Vansh Sacher.
The relay format gave the young runners an opportunity to compete in a different setting from a traditional cross-country meet, combining individual performances with the strategy and teamwork of a relay.
St. Joseph's finished the meet with one championship, two second-place finishes and one third-place finish.
