Students and faculty at St. Joseph Catholic School gathered Friday morning for a remembrance ceremony honoring those affected by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The ceremony, organized by teachers David Dean and Kathryn Buonocore, was held for fifth- and sixth-grade students.
The program began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a performance of the national anthem sung by sixth-grade student Camdyn Cummings.
As part of the ceremony, sixth-grade student and Girl Scout Mary Bennet lowered the American flag in a solemn tribute to the victims and heroes of Sept. 11.
Those attending also joined together, reciting a prayer given by Pope Benedict XVI during his 2008 visit to Ground Zero in New York City.
The ceremony provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the events of Sept. 11 and remember the lives lost, the sacrifices made and the lasting impact of that day on the nation.
