For more than 120 years, the familiar sound of the old bell atop the Hunter Building marked the beginning of another school year at Tidioute Community Charter School.
Students and staff returned ready to begin a new year filled with learning, growth, and opportunity.
"Every first day of school brings a special kind of energy, but there is something particularly exciting about seeing our students and staff come together again," said TCCS CEO Ryan Steffan. "We have been preparing for this moment, and it is incredibly rewarding to see the excitement on our students' faces as they walk through the doors."
This year, TCCS welcomed several new members to its faculty, including two special education teachers, a computer science teacher, an elementary teacher, and a kindergarten teacher serving the K-4 program.
"Our new teachers bring fresh energy, ideas, and expertise to our school," Steffan said. "What has been especially encouraging is watching our returning teachers immediately step up to welcome and support their new colleagues with their wealth of wisdom. That spirit of teamwork is one of the things that makes TCCS such a great place to work and learn."
Behind the scenes, TCCS maintenance staff, directed by Tedd Sudul, spent much of the summer preparing the school for students and staff to return, laying almost eight tons of new tile. In addition to routine cleaning and upkeep, the maintenance team completed numerous projects in-house, demonstrating the pride and dedication that goes into maintaining the school each year.
"So much work happens behind the scenes before students ever arrive on the first day," Steffan said. "Our maintenance staff takes tremendous pride in this school, and their efforts make a real difference. They help create an environment where our students can feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn."
"We are ready for this school year, and we are excited about what lies ahead," Steffan said. "Our students, teachers, support staff, and families all play an important role in making TCCS what it is. We look forward to building on our successes, embracing new opportunities, and making the 2026-2027 school year an outstanding one for our entire school community."
