Recovery group plans Thursday event for hope, healing

In honor of Rodney Gage’s memory and all lives lost to addiction, community members will gather to remember and honor those lives and the families, to support one another and find strength.
The evening will include live music by Dewayne Moore as he takes the stage with his nephew, Nico Ricci, as the newly formed duo Timber & Ash, for this year’s September is Recovery Month Event, held locally at The Crossing.

The leaders of Overcomers Anonymous, a local faith-based recovery group will have a night of hope and healing, in celebration of recovery at The Crossing Cafe located at 350 Pennsylvania Ave. West, in Warren from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Music will be provided by the local band Timber & Ash.
This free event welcomes everyone and will include speakers, music and a time to celebrate those in their recovery journey as well as remember those lost their battle to addiction.
Keynote speaker for the evening is Kris Wright who serves as the co-leader of the Overcomers Anonymous Faith-Based Recovery Group and is a deeply dedicated local professional in the field of addiction recovery. He brings a unique, multifaceted perspective to his work, serving the recovery community as a therapist, peer, motivational speaker, and writer. His dual insight as both a clinical professional and someone walking the path of recovery, allows him to connect with audiences on a profoundly authentic level.
During the event, Kris will share his powerful personal recovery story and address the deeply poignant, often untalked-about topic of survivor's guilt in recovery. This will be an inspiring session of hope, healing, and strength.
Founder and leader of the recovery group, Dewayne Moore is a professional working locally in the mental health field, and brings a message of profound hope and inspiration to those navigating substance abuse and mental health challenges. His powerful personal journey of addiction recovery illuminates how faith, unconditional love, and community pulled him out of the darkest depths of addiction. Moore's passion for serving others and his first-hand perspective offer a compassionate reminder that true healing and transformation are possible for anyone.
Behind every headline and statistic about the battle with addiction is a person deeply loved -- a son, a father, a brother, a friend -- and a family left carrying an unimaginable weight of grief. The toll of addiction extends far beyond the individual; it ripples through hearts, homes, and entire communities, leaving behind empty chairs at family tables and unspoken words that linger forever.
Dewayne along with wife Christy shared that this year, their family intimately understands the profound loss.
"We mourn the loss of Rodney Gage -- a life taken far too soon," they said. Just 24 days before his passing, Rodney wrote about finding recovery and his words now serve as a powerful testament to his heart, his hope, and the courage it takes to confront this illness, even in its darkest hours.
In honor of Gage's memory and every life lost to addiction, those in attendance at the event will be coming together to remember, honor, and support one another. His final writing on recovery will be shared publicly to honor his legacy and inspire hope, taking time to specially honor his beloved parents and his son, recognizing the strength, love, and resilience they carry forward.
Addiction isolates, but grief and healing do not have to be carried alone. The event will hold an open, welcoming space for anyone in our community to share about a loved one lost to this battle, speak their names, and remember them together.
Christy Moore, Certified Addictions Counselor holds the role of clinical mentor in the Overcomers Anonymous group, added, ”Grief is the price we pay for love, but in remembering together, we ensure that light and hope have the final word.”
Whether you are navigating your own grief, supporting a loved one in recovery, or simply standing in solidarity with grieving families, the invitation is open for all to join and hold space for one another, break the stigma surrounding addiction, and honor those who left far too soon.

Dewayne -- the 2025 winner of both Chautauqua's Got Talent and Warren's Got Talent -- and Nico, current frontman for the band The Drive Back Home, will bring an evening of rich, fun entertainment. The duo will perform a live set featuring Dewayne's recently released single, “Life In My Eyes,” a moving song about overcoming addiction and finding hope.
