Last week's football game on the War Memorial Field displayed patriotism in many ways, from the camouflage jerseys the Warren Dragons wore to the halftime show where military flags were walked on the field and veterans were called on the field.
The local chapter of Blue Star Mothers greeted everyone on the way into the game, with a table set up with freebies for veterans to enjoy. Founder and president Skyla Govier spoke on how their sacrifices give us the freedom to gather freely.
"They are the reason this field, their school, and this town stand safe. They carried the weight of our freedom on their shoulders, so we could carry on with our lives." Govier went on to say that the best of Warren County was represented on the field and that we all have a duty we must carry forward to teach the next generation that freedom is not automatic, it is earned by courage, protected by sacrifice and is all possible because service is a promise our veterans have chosen.
She continued, "Stepping up for something greater than ourselves is one of the most powerful things a person can do." She remarked that showing patriotism is not just a word, but a responsibility.
"Every race, every religion, every political party, every corner of our economy has died for our country."
She concluded, "Warren County stands together and says, 'We honor you. We see you. We thank you, and we will never forget your sacrifice.' God bless our veterans, our service members, and those that are deployed in the United States of America."
