Scammers are becoming increasingly convincing, but knowing the warning signs can help individuals protect themselves and the people they care about.
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the Warren-Forest Higher Education Council will partner with Kinzua Federal Credit Union to offer a free community class titled "Scam Smart," from 6 to 7 p.m. The class will be held at Hi-Ed, located at 589 Hospital Drive, Suite F, in Warren.
Kinzua Federal Credit Union representatives Amanda Fetzeck and Amy Lyon will discuss scams they are commonly seeing in the local area. Participants will learn how to recognize warning signs, protect their personal and financial information, and respond appropriately if they believe they or someone close to them may be the target of a scam.
Through their work at Kinzua Federal Credit Union, Fetzeck and Lyon have assisted customers who have been affected by scams and have seen firsthand the financial and emotional harm these incidents can cause. They hope to help community members recognize the warning signs and protect themselves before a scam occurs.
Scammers often create a false sense of urgency, fear, or trust to pressure people into acting before they have time to think. This class will provide practical information participants can use to identify suspicious activity before money or personal information is lost.
Anyone concerned about protecting themselves, a family member, or another loved one is encouraged to attend. When it comes to scams, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
