‘Come From Away’ lands at Struthers this week

Tickets are selling quickly for "Come From Away" at Struthers Library Theatre, Thursday to Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
An unforgettable story of kindness, resilience, and the extraordinary connections that can emerge in the most difficult of times is brought forth with the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. The show was chosen as a way in which to honor the victims and all those whose lives were forever changed by that day through a special presentation of the extraordinary musical Come From Away.
Based on a true story, "Come From Away" tells the remarkable events that unfolded when 38 airplanes were diverted to Newfoundland after U.S. airspace was closed for the first time in history on Sept. 11, 2001. The musical follows the residents of Gander and several surrounding towns as their homes, hearts, and communities were opened to thousands of stranded passengers from around the world.
The people are real. The stories are real. The kindness, compassion, and generosity shown by this small community - one very much like our own -- is a story worth telling and, most certainly, worth seeing. As we remember this important anniversary, Struthers Library Theatre hopes to not only honor those who were lost, but also celebrate the goodness, humanity, and hope that emerged during a difficult time.
The production itself has become a community project. Artistic Director and cast member Eric Morelli designed and constructed the set, creating a visual representation of people from all over the world coming together in one place. Pallets donated by local businesses were distributed throughout Warren County and signed by community members. People were invited to write the name of someone they love, someone they miss, a message of hope or remembrance, or simply their own name. Those pallets were then collected and transformed into the set for the show, making the community itself part of the story. The nearly 3,000 names of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 are also included as part of the set.
With beautiful music, an outstanding cast, and a powerful story, Come From Away is a production that audiences will not soon forget. This Tony Award-winning musical is being performed in communities around the world as part of the 25th anniversary remembrance, and Warren is fortunate to be among those sharing this story.
Directed by veteran director Jen Check, the production has brought together an exceptional group of actors, musicians, and volunteers. "We have assembled an incredible cast and orchestra to create a truly powerful ensemble, and they have worked tirelessly for months preparing," said Check. "I have been directing for more than 30 years, and this is by far the most challenging production I have ever been a part of. It is also one of the most moving, inspiring, and beautiful stories I have ever had the privilege to bring to an audience."
