Real experiences produce better leaders. Teaching the future generations about teamwork, responsibility, community care and helping others succeed is at the core of Hi-Ed's Youth Leadership Program.
The kickoff for this year's program will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Warren Forest Higher Education Council at 589 Hospital Dr., Suite F, Warren. An introduction to leadership will include presentations from Hi-Ed Director John Papalia as well as Savannah Casey.
In its third year, the program is about engaging youth in sixth through eighth grades. Students go beyond the classroom to learn directly from the people and organizations helping Warren County thrive. The program concludes with a special trip to Harrisburg, where students will meet area leaders and visit the state Capitol.
"It gives them an experience to try on different career hats," said Angela Bigelow, Hi-Ed assistant director.
Each month from September through May, sessions take place on days where students do not have school.
This year, students will visit and learn from 3 Pillarz Farm, Goat Fort Indoor Climbing, Whirley DrinkWorks, City of Warren, Warren General Hospital, Cameron Energy, Chapman State Park, State leaders in Harrisburg--and more.
Instilling greater confidence, new friendships, career exploration, and unforgettable experiences, this youth leadership series strengthens the future of Warren and Forest County.
