Annual Suicide Awareness Walk slated for Wednesday

The use of the semicolon for suicide awareness is to demonstrate that your story is not over. Colors behind the cause for the teal and purple ribbon are representing hope, healing and support for those impacted by suicide.

September is Suicide Awareness Month and the YMCA Be Well Program, in collaboration with Family Services of Warren County, will be having their annual Suicide Awareness and Memorial Walk on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m.

All are welcome to walk in remembrance, walk for awareness, walk for support, walk for hope, and walk for a brighter tomorrow. Every step shines a light as not only awareness is spread but acceptance, prevention, kindness and community.

The walk will start at Family Services of Warren County at 119 Market St., onto Fourth Avenue pass by the courthouse, continue to Hickory Street, turn to Second Avenue and end back at the starting point.

Informational tables will be set up on Market Street in front of Family Services. Arrive at 5 p.m. to visit the tables and gather for a group photo; walk begins at 5:30 p.m. For more information, contact Erin Wallace at the YMCA 814‑726‑0110.

For additional resources, CORE Warren is a non-profit organization by Kari Laughlin and the acronym stands for Choosing Openness Regarding Experiences. It is a project designed to spread awareness and education and keyed the "Glow;rious" with the semicolon purposefully in there for it's meaning of not allowing your story to end. Glow sticks will be available during the walk.
