The Civil Air Patrol New York Wing encampment took place in late July at Hancock Field operated by the Air National Guard.
Four cadets from the Jamestown Civil Air Patrol Squadron attended basic encampment: C/TSgt Dawson Benson of Bear Lake, C/MSgt Elouise Bilott of Tidioute, C/CMSgt Sarah Dorman of Jamestown and C/Amn Samuel Fitch of Jamestown.
While at the basic encampment, cadets were challenged to reach outside of their comfort zone and push themselves in physical training, aerospace and leadership education, drill formation and more.
Cadets begin their day at 5:30 a.m. with physical exercise and training before breakfast. Many cadets had the chance to experience orientation flights, operating a Civil Air Patrol Cessna in flight. Recognized on Sunday, July 26 as graduates of basic encampment, this now allows the opportunity for national training and leadership events in the Civil Air Patrol Program as well as earning an important part of the Billy Mitchell Award requirements.
C/CMSgt Colton Hagg of Warren attended the advanced training school which consisted of leadership and color guard training, more specific classes and opportunities. He also graduated from that training on July 26.
