True banner moment

Hometown Hero ceremony slated for Saturday morning

By Jessica N. Rex 2 min read
The family of James L. Kitelinger attended one of the Hometown Hero Banner dedication ceremonies.

Warren County ranks fourth in Pennsylvania for its highest number of veterans per capita.

This year's orders resulted in an overwhelming response for the annual Hometown Hero Banners, causing a dedication ceremony date to be rescheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Art Kelsey Park, located at 218 Liberty St., Warren.

The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua PA203 are preparing for the ceremony by partnering with the City of Warren to hang the banners.Grateful for the community's patience, Blue Star Mothers are excited to see our local heroes adorning the city streets.

The public is welcome to attend any dedication ceremony and the Blue Star Mothers are more than happy to read something for your loved one if you cannot attend. This is an outdoor event that is not limited to how many can attend and chairs are highly recommended. The banners will start at Saint Joseph Catholic Church and will work their way east through town.

Blue Star Mothers are mothers of active duty or veteran children. They stand behind and support our military and each other. They organize fundraisers to send care packages overseas to our troops so they know they are not forgotten. In addition, they honor graduating seniors entering the Armed Forces throughout Warren, McKean and Forest counties. Gifts are also given throughout the year to veterans in local nursing homes along with many other programs throughout the year. The group meets once a month on the fourth Saturday and is looking for more volunteers. For more information, visit the Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua PA203 Facebook page or call (814) 230-0804.
