New Point Park playground nears completion

Installation of the new playground at Point Park is nearing completion, with construction now about 95% finished.
Warren City Department of Public Works Superintendent Joe Reinke provided an update to the Parks, Recreation and Landscape Commission this week, saying crews are working to finish the remaining components of the playground.
Reinke said some key pieces of the structure have not yet been installed in an effort to prevent the public from using the equipment while construction is still underway.
The playground's rubber safety surfacing also arrived Tuesday and is expected to be installed soon. Once applied, the surfacing will require approximately three days to properly cure. The area will be fenced off during that time, and the public is being strongly encouraged to stay off the surface to ensure the curing process is completed properly.
Prior to construction of the playground, the city completed improvements at Point Park that included the addition of a pavilion and storm drainage.
Once the playground is finished, LED lighting will be installed. Reinke also said the city is exploring the possibility of adding a security camera at the park.
"I think this is going to make it an even better complex," Reinke said.
Commission members agreed that the new playground could bring additional visitors to the area and potentially increase attendance at the C.A.R Pool.
The Point Parks improvements also received additional support through a $250,000 grant awarded through the Congressional Directed Spending program and secured by Sen. John Fetterman in February.
The grant will be used toward construction of an ADA-accessible restroom at the park, which is planned for 2027.
