With the 2026-27 school year just days away, Warren County School District officials say preparations are largely complete and the district is ready to welcome students back to classrooms.
During the district's August 10 regular board meeting, Superintendent Gary Weber told board members that staff have been busy preparing classrooms and buildings, finalizing schedules and completing professional development ahead of the August 25 opening.
"We're in good shape," Weber said.
Administrative teams have met throughout the summer to finalize plans and schedules, while new-teacher orientations and professional development activities continue. Districtwide in-service sessions are scheduled for August 20, 21 and 24 at Warren Area High School.
Student schedules and enrollment adjustments are still being finalized. Weber said kindergarten enrollment is expected to continue growing, with the district reaching out to families during the Warren County Fair through a community information booth operating throughout the week.
Staffing also remains a focus as the district prepares for the new school year. Although several positions are still open, Weber said administrators believe the district has adequate staffing heading into the first day of classes.
Transportation preparations are also nearing completion, with bus routes finalized and parent notifications about schedules expected to be sent soon.
Fall athletics officially got underway on Monday, as student-athletes began heat-acclimation activities and practices ramped up ahead of the start of competition .
Meanwhile, maintenance and custodial crews have continued their work to prepare school buildings for students. Paving and other summer projects are nearing completion as the district puts the finishing touches on its facilities.
The district's next committee meeting is scheduled for August 24, one day before students return to classrooms August 25.
