House of Hope collects 170 bags of shoes

Volunteer Coordinator for the House of Hope, Vicky Whitford is pictured here during last week’s shoe collection pick up which occurs several times throughout the year, with the ongoing fundraiser.

The House of Hope had another successful shoe collection, with 170 bags of shoes heading to Florida to be weighed and money generated for the House of Hope.

The shoes are then sent to another country, where they will support a micro-enterprise. The shoes are sold, providing families with an opportunity to earn money and support themselves.

"It's really a win-win-win fun fundraiser. We're so happy that the community supports this so much," said Vicky Whitford, House of Hope volunteer coordinator.

Any gently used shoes (except roller blades, roller skates, and ice skates) can be donated all year long to assist with the operation of the House of Hope, 316 Hazeltine St., Warren.

The front porch has a collection room on the left hand side where residents collect and later sort the shoes in preparation for the donation truck.

The House of Hope is in need of volunteers. Some of the volunteers have decided to step down at the end of the year, leaving roles as treasurer, house maintenance manager and manager of the House of Hope mentorship program to be filled.
