Bike Rodeo conducted by Youngsville Police

Participants as young as age 3 recently joined the Youngsville Police Department in a bike rodeo.

The Youngsville Police Department held its Bike Rodeo last weekend at the Youngsville Fire Station 61.

Chief Todd Mineweaser and Patrolman Charles Andersen from Youngsville Police Department and Patrolman Gary Doolittle from the Warren City Police Department were on hand for the event. Also in attendance was the Youngsville Mayor Catrina Leamon and Andy Georgakis from the Warren Cycle Shop.

Skill stations were set up with multiple obstacles along with a speed test, which held the children’s attention for quite some time. Near the end of the event, the police gave all the participants an escort as they rode their bicycles through the Youngsville Borough.

Andersen has been involved with the event for 17 years.

Recently employed as a part time officer in Youngsville to assist with patrol and different activities, Andersen started his career in 2009 with full time employment with Conewango Township Police for the last 15 years.

Officer Doolittle of Warren City Police generously assisted in the bike rodeo by bringing participants through an obstacle course and a road ride while teaching them multiple aspects of safe cycling.

“I enjoy doing community events as I believe it not only provides an enhancement in bicycle safety but also assists in community relations with the police department and provides a chance for our community to become familiar with the police department.” Andersen said. “These events would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors, Midtown Motors, Calvert-Pearson Insurance, and Warren Cycle Shop.”

The young participants were able to have their bikes checked and or repaired and all went home with a prize from the event.

Starting at $4.00/week.
