Russell man sentenced to jail time after domestic incident

A Russell man has been sentenced to between 22 months and five years of confinement after a 2025 domestic incident.

Hugo T. Rosendahl, 57, had been charged in February 2025 with with three first-degree felonies including two charges of aggravated assault- attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes of injury with extreme indifference, and one count strangulation- applying pressure to the throat or neck. Other charges include misdemeanor charges of unlawful restraint/serious bodily injury, simple assault, two counts of resisting arrest, and a summary harassment charge.

Rosendahl pleaded guilty in May to one count of first-degree strangulation – applying pressure to throat or neck, and criminal mischief. The rest of the charges were not prosecuted. In addition to confinement, Rosendahl was sentenced to pay $699.99 in restitution by President Judge Gregory Hammond in the Court of Common Pleas.

Rosendahl, according to the Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by the Pennsylvania State Police, involved in a domestic dispute after a woman asked for help getting the car started. The woman told police that “Rosendahl struck her, then held her down and attempted to pour drain cleaner in her mouth.” The woman also said Rosendahl had thrown hot coffee on her. Officers observed injuries on the victim including blood on her face and red marks on her throat.

Troopers had to force entry into the residence and subdue Rosendahl in order to take him into custody.

“Rosendahl had boarded up both entries to the residence,” the affidavit stated. “He was instructed to exit the residence and would not comply.”

Other sentences handed down recently in the Court of Common Pleas by Judge Hammond are:

– Jeremy Jon Rose, 36, of Spartansburg, Pa., was sentenced to between three months and 23 months of confinement with credit for three days time served after pleading guilty in May to a charge of misdemeanor strangulation applying pressure to throat or neck. Charges of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another and harassment were not prosecuted, while the strangulation charge was changed from a second-degree felony to a misdemeanor.

– Jason D. Hoibraten, 45, of Waterford was sentenced to between five months and one year of confinement, five years probation, $2,500 in fines and attendance at a Victim’s Impact Panel and Alcohol Highway Safety School after pleading guilty to third-degree misdemeanor illegal operation without ignition interlock (BAC .25% or more) and DUI: controlled substance – combination alcohol and drugs – second offense.

– Bradley A. Marfink, 48, was sentenced to six months of probation after pleading guilty to a charge of evading arrest or detention on foot.

– Joshua Stillwell, 44, of Warren was sentenced to six months of probation, $25 in fines and attendance in an Alcohol Highway Safety School and Victim’s Impact Panel afer pleading guilty to a charge of DUI: controlled substance – schedule 1 – first offense.

– David A. Carlson, 59, of Erie was sentenced to five years of probation, $2,500 in fines, attendance in an Alcohol Highway Safety School and Victim’s Impact Panel after pleading guilty t a charge of DUI: highest rate of alcohol (BAC .16% or more).

– Adam R.J. Sarver was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to a charge of simple assault.

– Lance Easley, 51, of Warren was sentenced to two years of probation and to pay $431 of business restitution after pleading guilty to theft by deception – false impression.

– Claire N. Jenkins, 42, of Warren was sentenced to six months of probation, $300 in fines, attendance in an Alcohol Highway Safety School and Victim’s Impact Panel after pleading guilty to DUI: general impairment/incapable of driving safely – first offense.

– A bench warrant was issued for Brian Allen, 46, of Erie after Allen failed to appear in court for sentencing after pleading guilty in May to charges of unauthorized use of a motor/other vehicles, intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered and two traffic citations.
