The Warren County Commissioners officially proclaimed Sunday to July 25 as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week during their meeting Wednesday, recognizing the work of community corrections professionals who help protect public safety while assisting individuals transitioning back into the community.

The proclamation highlights the role of pretrial, probation and parole officers in supervising offenders, ensuring compliance with court-ordered conditions, and providing counseling and support aimed at reducing recidivism. It also recognizes their collaboration with law enforcement, treatment providers, social service agencies and other community organizations.

Tricia Durbin, County Commissioner Vice Chair, said the annual observance is an opportunity to recognize the professionals who work to make neighborhoods safer while helping parolees address challenges and become productive members of society.

The commissioners thanked the department for its commitment to both public safety and rehabilitation.

Following the proclamation, members of the probation department were invited forward to receive the official document.

Also attending the presentation were Judge Gregory Hammond and Judge Todd Wooden.

“You’re indispensable to me personally and indispensable to our community,” said Wooden.

Hammond praised the department’s longstanding service to the county.

“I’ve always said we have the best probation departments in the state,” he said. “They’re excellent at what they do.

The proclamation states that pretrial, probation and parole officers are essential members of the criminal justice system who uphold the law with dignity, protect victims of crime, promote prevention and intervention and help individuals successfully reintegrate into society.

The commissioners encouraged residents to recognize the contributions of probation, parole and community corrections professionals and their role in building safer communities.
