Warren Public Library to celebrate summer reading season

The Warren Public Library will welcome the community to a Summer Kickoff and Ice Cream Social on Monday, June 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the library’s Slater Room.

This free event is open to the public, and attendees of all ages are invited to participate.

Guests will be able to create their own ice cream sundaes with a variety of complimentary toppings provided by the library. Coloring pages and crafts will also be available throughout the event.

In addition, visitors can pick up copies of the library’s Summer Programming Schedule and register for the library’s annual summer reading challenge.

“We offer a variety of events, programs and reading challenges for all age groups, including games, music, crafts, movies, scavenger hunts, guest speakers and more,” said Jenn Knisley, Reference and Adult Services Librarian in a press release. .

This year’s summer reading theme, “Unearth a Story,” highlights archaeology, dinosaurs and paleontology.

“Many of our summer events and programs, as well as book displays in the library, will be focused on the summer reading theme,” Knisley explained. “However, people can read whatever genres or topics they want for the summer reading challenge.”

Participants in the summer reading challenge may read in any format, including books, e-books, audiobooks, comics, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers. Children will track the number of books they read, while teens and adults will record the number of minutes spent reading.

Those who register may choose to track their progress either on paper or electronically through Reader Zone.
