Warren native celebrates 103rd birthday

Friends gathered to celebrate 103 years for World War veteran Stan Pearson of Warren.

Having once met at the Red Barn Restaurant, the group now meets at the Peppermill Family Restaurant. Left side, front to back, are Ella Johnson, Pat Hemmerly, and Harold Wall. Born June 7, 1923, Stan Pearson is celebrated for going beyond the 100 milestone marker by turning 103 on Sunday. Born in Warren, this lifelong resident served in World War II during his time in the Army.

He spent 23 months in the South Pacific,and was honorably discharged as a corporal after three years. Upon his return home, at age 23, Pearson married his late wife Shirley in 1946. She also lived a long life of 99 years. The two enjoyed extensive traveling, and visited 48 of the states as well as Europe and Puerto Rico. Married for 77 years, the couple traveled up until 2005.

Pearson worked at Cobb’s Wallpaper and Paint Store in Warren for 14 years and at age 60 he retired from the Warren post office. A Russell High School graduate, Pearson has stayed sharp and still lives at home, able to do many things including his taxes, bills and cooking. He has been a member at Grace United Methodist Church in Warren for several years. When asked what invention amazed him the most throughout his lifetime, Pearson replied, “The computer, but I never owned one!”

Father to Kathy Albaugh, Pearson also has three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The joy of his life is spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.
