Commissioners proclaim June as Dairy Month

Warren County Dairy Princess Madison Sleeman accepts the Dairy Month Proclamation from County Commissioners

The Warren County Commissioners officially proclaimed June 2026 as Dairy Month during their June 17 meeting, recognizing the importance of Pennsylvania’s dairy industry and the contributions of local dairy farmers.

The proclamation highlighted agriculture as Pennsylvania’s leading economic driver, with dairy serving as the state’s largest agricultural sector. Pennsylvania ranks eighth in the nation in total milk production and second in the number of dairy farms, with approximately 4,850 dairy farm families across the commonwealth.

According to the proclamation, the dairy industry supports more than 47,000 jobs and contributes nearly $11.8 billion annually to Pennsylvania’s economy in both rural and urban communities.

Commissioners noted that Dairy Month honors dairy farm families, food processors and others involved in providing consumers with fresh dairy products. The proclamation also recognized milk’s designation as Pennsylvania’s official state beverage, a distinction established by the General Assembly on April 29, 1982.

Following the adoption of the proclamation, Warren County Dairy Princess Madison Sleeman accepted the recognition on behalf of the local dairy community and thanked the commissioners for their support.

“It means a lot to me and to the fellow dairy farmers,” Sleeman said.

She also spoke about the Fill a Glass with Hope campaign, a dairy promotion and nutrition initiative that raises money to provide milk to area food pantries. Sleeman said the campaign raised $3,500 last year and has set a goal of $5,000 for 2026.

Sleeman encouraged residents to support upcoming fundraisers and learn more about the dairy industry’s role in the community.

Starting at $4.00/week.
