A Sheffield man who is currently facing two felony charges has been charged with 10 more felonies after an alleged incident Tuesday.
Lorn R. Champlin Jr., 40, was charged by Warren city police officers on Monday with five counts of first-degree felony burglary – overnight accommodations, person present, bodily/injury crime, three counts of second-degree felony criminal trespass – breaking into structure, two counts of third-degree felony criminal trespass – entering structure, misdemeanor terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, two counts of public drunkenness and similar misconduct and one count of misdemeanor criminal mischief – damaging property.
Champlin Jr. was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning by Magisterial District Judge Laura Bauer. Bauer set bail at $75,000, and Champlin was taken to the Warren County Prison until he can post bail.
In February, Champlin Jr. was charged with two counts of felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, two counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, retail theft – taking merchandise and marijuana possession – small amount, personal use by Conewango Township police.
According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an officer was leaving the Walmart store on Market Street when he was told a man who had already been identified and contacted by store employees and Conewango Township police for retail theft in late January was in the store’s parking lot. That man, Jeffrey Brunecz, 52, of Sheffield, was charged with defiant trespass.
Brunecz, the affidavit states, is known to associate with Champlin Jr., who store employees found inside the Walmart store at the time. Champlin Jr. allegedly went past the final point of sale and left the store, causing the theft monitoring devices on items he was carrying to sound an alarm. Champlin Jr. allegedly got into his truck, which is when store employees notified a Conewango Township police officer. The officer pulled the truck over near Starbucks. Champlin Jr. allegedly told the officer he may not have paid for a prescription. Inside a prescription bag, according to the affidavit, were several other items that hadn’t been paid for with a value of around $100. The officer said Champlin Jr. was also in possession of a backpack that allegedly contained 11.4 grams of methamphetamine, 19.5 bars or tablets of Alprazolam, a Schedule 4 controlled substance, a digital scale with white residue and several baggies. Champlin also allegedly had containers, pipes, baggies, straws, metal pieces, a hypodermic needle, alcohol wipes, THC wax and a small amount of marijuana.
