80 participate in county Envirothon competition

Annual Warren County Envirothon Winning Varsity Team named “Silly Salamanders” from left are Carter Anderson, Peyton Hulse, Cameron Kibbey, Lainey DeVore and Quinn Selfridge.

The annual Warren County Envirothon was recently at Chapman State Park. This year approximately 80 students from five schools competed in the event. The schools present were Eisenhower Middle/ Senior High School, Sheffield Middle School, Tidioute Community Charter School, Warren Area High School, and Youngsville Middle School. The students had five different testing stations: Forestry, Soils, Aquatics, Wildlife and Current Issue which was “Non-Point Source Pollution Mitigation: It begins at home”. They spent 35 minutes per station and could score up to 100 points per station.

Tidioute Community Charter School, under the direction of Team Adviser Matt Irons, won first place in the Varsity division at this year’s Envirothon. Team name “Silly Salamanders” consisted of team members Carter Anderson, Peyton Hulse, Cameron Kibbey, Quinn Selfridge and Lainey Devore.

The other Varsity top finishers are: second place from Eisenhower High School, under the direction of Team Adviser Robert Musi, team name “Cat Scratch 2.0” with Alex Lund, Tydus Chase, Bowen Lindell, Carson Britt and Riley Lauger.

Eisenhower High School also took third place with the team named “Big Bucks”, Abigail Wencil, Easton Fitzgerald, Lila Eckman, Caitlyn Pikna and Gaby Hodak.

In fourth place was Warren Area High School under the direction of Team Advisor Mr. Kyle Wingard, team name of “Warren Whistlepigs”, Zane Carlson, Jacob Retterer, Lucille Harrison, Brock Polito and Chris Orth.

The junior varsity Team winning team “The Hungry Hungry Hippos” from left are Parker Cressley, Luke Baxter, Lilly Lair, Ella Lord, and Rylynn Scott.

The junior varsity winner at this year’s Envirothon was “The Hungry Hungry Hippos” from Youngsville Middle School under the direction of Team Advisor Ms. Ann Ryan, consisting of Lilly Lair, Ella Lord, Rylynn Scott, Luke Baxter and Parker Cressley.

The other winners were: second place from Youngsville Middle School, team name “The Perfect Pandas”, with Mason Gentz, Ian Lewis, Wesley Hornstrom and Camryn Branstrom.

Third place from Sheffield Middle School under the direction of Team Advisor Ms. Morgan Briggs, team name “Water Rats,” with Olivia Cressley, Zella Scitler, Kaylee Emahizer, Isaiah Cook and Waylan Holden.

Fourth place from Sheffield Middle School, team name “Control Alt Defeat,” with Adalyn Ettinger, Rayna Atwell, Madi Perkins, Marylou Pierce and Gavin Siffin.

Awards were given to the Varsity teams with the highest scores in each of the categories. In Forestry after a tie breaker question was the Big Bucks, Wildlife was the Silly Salamanders, Current Issue was Cat Scratch 2.0, Aquatics was Cat Scratch 2.0 and in Soils there was a tie between Silly Salamanders and Big Bucks.
