Crescent Park to have Arbor Day celebration

A significant portion of last week’s Parks, Recreation and Landscaping Commission meeting focused on preparations for this year’s Arbor Day celebration, which is both a longstanding tradition and a growing opportunity for community engagement in Warren.

This year’s event will be held at Crescent Park, where a Kentucky coffee tree has been selected for planting. The choice of tree was intentional, as the species is both strong and relatively uncommon in the region.

Recent storm damage in Crescent Park, which removed several mature maple trees, made the location particularly suitable for new plantings.

The annual Arbor Day celebration is designed to be more than a ceremonial tree planting. The celebration will include a public gathering at the park pavilion.

In previous years, the event has drawn a mix of residents and school groups, sometimes bringing dozens of participants to the park. Members of the committee said Involving younger attendees is especially important, as it helps foster long-term environmental awareness.

As planning continues, organizers encourage residents to attend the event, learn about the city’s forestry initiatives, and take part in a tradition that continues to grow alongside Warren’s parks system. Arbor Day will be celebrated on Friday, April 24.

Starting at $3.50/week.
